This week is a special week when baby loss and the impact this has on bereaved families is recognised. This is an opportunity to raise awareness and provide support to everyone concerned.

In our work as Clinical negligence lawyers we come across many clients who contact us following the loss of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after birth. Listening to their stories is heartwretching but going through this must be unimaginable.  So what can we do collectively to ensure people who need support are not ignored?

The aim of Baby Loss Awareness week is to

  • commerorate babies’ lives
  • support bereaved parents, families and friends
  • raise much needed awareness
  • support health professionals
  • encourage positive improvements in care and support

Parents who have lost babies during pregnancy may feel isolated and those around them may not appreciate that they are grieving the loss of a baby.  During this week many charities will collaborate to support those affected.  Parents can remember their babies by going to a service ogranised by their local hospital or a local support group.  Some may find comfort by doing their own special service.  Volunteers and support workers at many charities will be on hand to give help and advice through charities such as www.sands.org.uk and www.babyloss-awareness.org

If you know of someone in your circle of friends who might be in need of support reach out to them as even an acknowledgement of their loss will make them feel they are not alone.

During the pandemic health professionals have been under immense pressure however, they are human too and recognising their good work in this field can also make a huge difference.  The same goes for those involved in the voluntary sector who support bereaved families.

We at IMD Solicitors feel priviledge to do what we do for our clients and we will be thinking of the many parents we have had the chance to serve.
