Our costs

Applying for probate, collecting and distributing assets

We estimate this will take between 10 and 16 hours at our standard hourly rates. Total costs are estimated at between £3,000 and £5,000 + VAT.

The exact cost will depend on the individual circumstances of the case. For example, if there is a single beneficiary and no assets, the costs will be at the lower end of the range. If there are multiple beneficiaries, property and multiple bank accounts, the costs will be higher.

We will handle the entire process for you. This offer applies to estates where:

  • There is a valid will
  • There is no more than one property
  • There are no more than three bank or credit union accounts
  • There are no other intangible assets
  • There are no more than three beneficiaries
  • There are no disputes between beneficiaries regarding the division of property. If there are disputes, it will probably lead to increased costs
  • There is no inheritance tax payable and executors do not have to file a full account with HMRC
  • There are no claims against the property
  • All assets are located in the UK

Expenses included in this fee:

  • Probate application fee of £155
  • £7 fee for swearing an oath (per executor)
  • Land Charges Bankruptcy Search (£2 per beneficiary)
  • Statutory Creditor Notices (protects against unexplained claims from unknown creditors) – £80-300 (inc VAT)

Expenses are costs associated with your case that are payable to third parties, such as legal fees. We handle expense payments on your behalf to ensure a smoother process.

Potential additional costs

  • If there is no will or the estate consists of shares (stocks and bonds), there will likely be additional costs, which can vary greatly depending on the estate and the proceeding. Once we have more information, we can provide a more accurate estimate.
  • If additional copies of the gift are required the cost is £1.00 (usually 1 per asset).
  • Activities related to the sale or transfer of any real estate in the estate are not included.

How long will this take?

On average, assets in this range can be dealt with in 3-6 months. It usually takes 6-12 weeks to get probate. Then comes the collection of assets, which can take between 3 to 6 weeks. Once this has been done, we can distribute the assets, which normally takes 3 to 6 weeks.
