Dora Calian

Avocat (Romania Jurisdiction)

Dora Calian is a qualified lawyer in Romania (Avocat) with over 6 years of experience in the legal field. She graduated from the Faculty of Law at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) in 2013 and immediately attended master’s courses in civil law at the same faculty.

In 2014 she was registered as a lawyer of the Bucharest Bar and since 2016 she is a lawyer of the Cluj Bar, thus gaining extensive experience in the administrative, health, family and civil litigation areas of law.

Dora was an external lawyer at the Centre for Legal Resources based in Bucharest and a legal researcher at the Faculty of Social Work and Sociology of Babes-Bolyai University. As part of these collaborations she participated in conferences, trainings and TV shows, published specialised articles in co-authorship and contributed to the elaboration of recommendations of good practice, public policies and legislative changes especially in the field of rights of people with mental disabilities who are closed in institutions, rights of institutionalized children and access to justice for vulnerable groups.

In order to acquire more knowledge, at the end of 2017 she participated in a study visit to the Mobile Legal Help Centre (NYLAG) of the New York Legal Assistance Group, Manhattan Family Justice Centre and United States District Court in New York, as part of a program organised by the Centre for Legal Resources.

In 2020 Dora successfully completed the first stage of the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme exam within the SRA to obtain the qualification of Solicitor in England and Wales. She is currently in the final stage of examination (OSCE).

Prior to joining our team, Dora enrolled in the Citizens Advice Witness Service to provide independent support for both prosecution and defence witnesses in Magistrates’ and Crown Court.

Within our team Dora is involved in solving the legal problems of Romanian clients under the supervision of the Solicitors and manages the court cases in Romania.

Dora speaks Romanian and English fluently and her goal is to help, assist and provide legal advice for Romanian community in the UK.
