Amazon Boss, Jeff Bezos agrees $35bn divorce settlement
This week another record was broken with the biggest ever divorce settlement.
Amazon founder and world’s richest man, Jeff Bezos, agreed to pay
$35 billion dollars in his divorce settlement from MacKenzie Bezos.
The second biggest divorce settlement was in Alec Wildenstein’s divorce case in 1999 with a $3.8 billion dollar settlement.
Despite Mr Bezos being the world’s richest person with an estimate net worth of $137 billion, interestingly in this case Mrs Bezos has given her ex-husband all of her “interests in the Washington and Blue Origin, and 75% of our Amazon stock plus voting control of my shares to support”.
From Mrs Bezo’s perspective she has expressed her relief that the process is now over and luckily for the now divorced couple they have been able to continue to support each other and are looking forward to entering the “next phase as co-parents and friends”.
IMD Solicitors Head of the Family Department and Solicitor, Melissa Cunningham, comments: “It is refreshing to see that this is another divorce where the parties are not portrayed nor encouraged to be anything other than amicable. Divorce and the breakdown of a marriage is stressful enough without feeling that you somehow have to be dogmatically aggressive in reaching a settlement. Emotions of course play a part in the process but the legal principles apply and that is why you should access legal advice from the outset and consider you options carefully”.
Conclusion
It can be difficult to know where to begin when you make the decision to divorce. However, there are a number of options available to you that we can discuss to look at securing a successful outcome.
