Mental Health for LGBT+ Community
It is thought that half of the LGBTQ + people experienced depression, that is three in five people. At IMD Solicitors, we believe in diversity, equality and inclusion for all. We are also committed to supporting all our colleagues with challenges related to mental health.
On the 1st February 2023 many of us will mark this day. This presents us with the opportunity to create time to talk and to talk openly about mental health.
Often it is hard to ask for help let alone talk about it for fear of being judged or rejected. However, self-esteem, depression and anxiety, including social anxiety, eating problems, self-harm or suicidal thoughts, are serious issues.
Being LGBTQ+ does not cause these problems but often these health issues are magnified and made worse by social attitudes. Homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, stigma and discrimination are sadly still prevalent.
IMD Solicitors have signed the Mind charity pledge to support mental health at work. We have Mental Health first aid champions in the work place, and we urge everyone out there to help friends and family by creating a safe space should they wish to talk about how they are feeling. This is usually the first place before formal help is sought. For more helpful information see https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/
Let us acknowledge and support the LGBT+ community in a respectful way.
