Social Mobility Awareness Day 15th June 2023
This awareness day is to support a wider conversation about Social Mobility and how we can encourage action to bring about positive change. The circumstances of birth should not determine a person’s outcome in life. A person should be allowed to move up and down the socio and economic ladder with access to the opportunities to improve their lives irrespective of their background or the situation they were born into. That is the ideal scenario, and it should be the norm but a conscious effort is required to ensure we are all aware of the injustice, and lack of opportunities to many of our fellow beings.
Practical steps to improve includes a fair education and access to education based on merits to all. Fair pay to match the skills on offer. Social mobility is the link between an individual’s income and occupation of their parents’ creating opportunities for individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds to me more economically successful. This brings into sharp focus the importance of diversity and inclusion where people feel empowered no matter what their personal background.
This year the Social Mobility Awareness day focus is on #SpeakMore to help spread awareness of what we are doing to promote #SocialMobilityDay.
At IMD Solicitors we are raising funds by doing the Miles for Refugees this month. Our colleagues have signed up to undertake a challenge of 108 miles each to raise funds and awareness of the plight of refugees. We are also supporting Ukrainian refugees in the UK and are currently exploring practical ways we can support them. We also support the LGBT+ community by providing a bespoke legal service which is sensitive to their needs. We are also raising awareness through our Diversity, Equality and Inclusion committee, as well as our Mental Health and wellbeing committee by ensuring people are empowered. Social Mobility is not specific to any group for everyone should feel they can reach their full potential no matter what their situation or background.
Join us and do your part to Support the #SocialMobilityDay in your unique way on the 15th June.
