The aim of International Women’s Day is to promote a gender equal world.  Just imagine a world free from discrimination and bias. A world which is diverse, equitable and inclusive, and where all of us are treated as equal and worthy.

At IMD Solicitors we are proud to support this day because we definitely live and breathe gender equality as more than half of our team are women.  Here,  we value and celebrate our differences, and we take positive action to promote gender equality and parity. This year’s theme is #Embrace Equality

We want to mark this day by recognising one of our own,  Iwona Durlak who is an inspirational leader in more way than one way.  She has worked hard to become a successful lawyer, and business owner of an international firm alongside her husband, Marcin Durlak. While she is busy supporting her clients fight for the custody of their children or seeking justice or an amicable separation across different, and often complex international jurisdictions, she also finds time to devote to her children and their cat.   When she is not busy nurturing the team at work and her children she enjoys dancing and running in her spare time.  Her vision to have a successful international law firm stems from the hardship she endured while growing up in a small city in Poland.

Whether at home or in business women are leaders who inspire.  Please raise awareness and celebrate the women in our midst.

Remember to #Embrace Equality and celebrate the women around you.

Everyone at IMD Solicitors wish all the women in the world, a very happy International Women’s day!!

To mark International Women’s Day we are delighted to share our interview with Iwona Durlak here.

Interview with Iwona Durlak

Q. Who is your female role model?

“There is so many great female role models that it is difficult to choose one name. I am however, inspired by female leaders who manage their careers and families and stay true to their values. Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s former prime minister (first one for New Zealand to be pregnant whilst in office) lead the country with compassion and strength during the most difficult times at the same time raising her little child. She was not afraid of showing her feelings and emotions. She worked her way up to become the country’s leader, she was not afraid of any type of job when needed and I believe this helped her to become one of the most powerful women in the world.”

Q. What drives you everyday to be your best?

“It is sometimes difficult and challenging when we feel overwhelmed with the amount of duties and responsibilities on our shoulders. A reminder of how I love my family and how I love what I do as a career helps me to focus to pursue excellence. I want to be a role model for my children.”

Q. Why do you think we need to embrace gender equality in the world and why now?

“The world needs more great female leaders, not afraid to show their feelings and lead with compassion and love. In times of war and uncertainty where one crises comes after another, we need to ensure that there are equal opportunities for everyone.”

Q. what is the one piece of advice would you give to your younger self age 5?

“Never give up on your dreams.”
