Daniel Rourke

Daniel is a Partner at IMD Solicitors LLP and leads the firm’s Private Wealth practice. He specialises in complex cross-border estate administration, advising high-net-worth individuals, families and personal representatives on estates involving assets across multiple jurisdictions.

With more than a decade of experience in estate administration, Daniel regularly advises on complex international estates involving assets, beneficiaries and legal issues spanning multiple jurisdictions. His work frequently requires coordination with overseas lawyers, financial institutions, tax advisers and personal representatives, together with careful navigation of differing succession and probate regimes. His experience includes advising Italian lawyers appointed as administrators of an estate with assets in Italy and England and Wales valued at approximately £27 million. Daniel is particularly focused on helping high-net-worth individuals and internationally connected families manage wealth and succession issues that extend beyond a single jurisdiction.

Daniel’s clients value his ability to bring clarity and reassurance to what are often complex and emotionally demanding situations. He adopts a pragmatic and highly personal approach, helping families understand their options, manage risk and move matters forward with confidence.

Prior to joining IMD, Daniel led Private Wealth teams at both regional and national law firms. Throughout his career, he has advised on substantial and technically challenging estates involving overseas assets, international beneficiaries, business interests and taxable estates.

Examples of Daniel’s experience include:

• Advising beneficiaries based in South Africa and Spain in relation to their father’s estate, which included assets in England, France and the Caribbean.
• Advising on an intestacy estate where a potential beneficiary was an unborn child, requiring careful consideration of succession rights before distribution of the estate.
• Advising on complex estates involving overseas assets, international beneficiaries and multi-jurisdictional administration issues.

Daniel’s particular focus is acting for high-net-worth individuals and internationally connected families whose estates include assets in both the United Kingdom and overseas. He regularly works alongside overseas lawyers, accountants and other professional advisers to help clients navigate the challenges associated with cross-border succession and estate administration.

Away from the office, Daniel enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters and is a proud dance dad. He enjoys discovering new restaurants, following the NFL and is currently training for an Ironman 70.3. Much of his free time is now spent swimming, cycling or running, although not always in that order.
