Due to the UK’s decision to leave the European Union there is a continuous debate as to whether obtaining a document confirming the right to permanent residence is still necessary. Citizens with the Permanent Residence document will be able to change the document for a settled status and will not have to pay or prove the 5 years continuous residence.
